“Beer number thirty-six.” Jason grinned at me as he strode back to where I sat on a barstool. Technically, I was training him, but there wasn’t much to train him on since he’d bartended before. To make sure he wasn’t lying about his experience, I’d kept going with the “training,” but a few hours in, it was clear he knew what he was doing.

“Soon I’m going to be buying you a drink,” I smiled, lifting my glass of sprite toward him.

“Hell yeah, you are.” He leaned over the bar, eyes lit up. “I’ll take three, since I’ll be drinking yours too.” He winked down at my baby bump, and I laughed.

“If you were taking mine too, you’d be drinking five.”

His eyebrows shot up. “Triplets?”

“Yep.” My hand landed on my belly and my kicking babies. Two of them were awake, at least, and their kicks were getting stronger. I’d have to let Oliver try to feel them when I got back.

“All by yourself? Damn, you must be Wonder Woman,” he remarked, still grinning at me. I was starting to worry he was flirting, but no one flirted with pregnant women, right?

I opened my mouth, then closed it. How was I supposed to explain my situation? Married, but possibly divorcing, but not on the market? Pregnant and being wooed by my baby-daddy?

Someone slid onto the stool beside mine, and an arm slid around my waist.

“My wife won’t be raising our children alone.” Oliver’s voice was hard, though smooth enough I doubted Jason would notice the angry inflection to it. I only noticed because of all the time we’d been spending together.

“Oh, sorry. I didn’t see a ring.” He gestured to my hand and got flagged down by someone on the other side of the bar.

“You’re buying him a drink?” Oliver growled under his breath at me.

“Figuratively. I told him I’d let him have a beer after he handed out forty of them, just to keep him motivated,” I murmured. “You’re not jealous?” I tilted my head, studying him.

“I’m extremely jealous.” He leaned in, his lips brushing my ear. “Where is your ring?”

Apparently he hadn’t noticed it missing before.

“I took it off when I asked you to move out. It didn’t feel right to wear it anymore. It’s not like you picked it out yourself, so I don’t know why you would care.”

Jason came back holding a bottle of beer, which he lifted toward me. I nodded in response, and Oliver shuddered. My hand landed on his thigh, but I saw the fur emerging on his fingers.

“Go to the bathroom,” I hissed, softly enough that my new bartender couldn’t hear.

The wolf-eyed glare he gave me told me he wasn’t going anywhere unless I went too, so I stood and tugged him to his feet, glancing back at my bartender. “I’m going to do some work in my office. Just knock if you need anything, and I’ll be back out here to check on you in a few minutes.”

I tried to push Oliver in front of me, but he wouldn’t have it.
